Helsinki city center is very compact, which makes walking from one place to another always a good option. However, the public transportation pass provided for the conference delegates makes it possible to use trams, buses, commuter trains, and ferries in addition to the metro. 
 
City bikes offer an additional, easy option to get from Helsinki to Aalto Campus or – thanks to the extensive 
network of 350 bike stations (in 2019) – just to get around in the cities of Helsinki and Espoo.

Helsinki is a compact city with an excellent public transport system that is convenient and efficient. To help keep the conference affordable for participants and sustainable for the environment, EURO 2022 offers free public transport tickets provided by Helsinki Region Transport (HSL), for all participants, which they will receive upon registration at the conference venue. The ticket is valid from 3-6 July and enables free travel on all public transport within Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen and Vantaa (where Helsinki Airport is located). Please note that only one ticket per participant is available and that EURO 2022 will not be able to issue replacements for lost tickets.

You can use your free public transport ticket during the conference on all trams, buses, metros and trains around Helsinki. Trams are the main mode of public transport in the city centre; if you want to travel by tram before or after the conference, then you can purchase a ticket from a ticket machine. A great way to see the city is to travel around on tram 2 or 3.

Helsinki is also a walkable city. A brochure with four walking routes, in 11 languages, is available for free from the Tourist Information Centre at the Central Railway Station – exploring on foot is a great way to see Helsinki’s sights! You can also stock up on regular printed maps and create your own route.

Helsinki Airport To City Centre

By Train

The easiest way to reach the city centre from the airport is by train. Trains I and P on the Ring Rail Line depart every 10-20 minutes from Helsinki Airport (Helsinki Ientoasema /Helsingfors flygplats) to the city centre. The stop is Helsinki/Helsingfors and the journey takes about 30 minutes. A regional ticket is required and can be purchased from a ticket machine at the station at a cost of approximately €5. Please note that trains do not run between 01:00 and 05:00 at night.
 

By Taxi

Taxis can be hailed at taxi stands or ordered by phone. Prices are fixed and shown on the meter, and both cash and credit cards are accepted. A taxi from the airport to the city centre takes around 20–30 minutes and costs around €45.
